Reg Jang is a level 2 certified/level 3 trained indoor coach, is the current president of the Georgian Cubs, and has been a key contributor to volleyball in the Barrie area for over two decades.
Reg has been coaching with the Cubs for over 18 years, most recently coaching 17U and 18U teams. Reg also coached elementary school teams for over 20 years, and is a former coach at Madawaska sports camp.
In addition to coaching, Reg is also a level 2 provincial official for both indoor and beach volleyball.
Daryl O'Brien is one of the senior coaches in the Cubs organization. Daryl is a level 3 trained indoor coach, a level 2 trained beach coach, and has been coaching with the Cubs since 2011. Daryl brings a wealth of experience to the club having coached high school teams for 20 years, beach volleyball for 15 years and over 10 years as a head coach at Camp Madawaska. Daryl has also been one of the architects of the Cubs' beach program and is a past director of Firebird Community Cycle, a non-profit organization dedicated to making cycling accessible to all.
Arlene is a Level 1 certified coach and has been involved in Barrie Volleyball for over 20 years as both a High School Coach and Georgian Cubs Coach since 2011. She has also coached competitive swimming, tennis and track and field.
Arlene has been a head coach at Olympia Sports Camp and is also the director of the Barrie Volleyball Academy. The Barrie Volleyball Academy offers developmental programming through a summer camp and clinics.
In addition to coaching both club volleyball, Girls Volleyball and the Swim Team at St. Joseph's CHS, Arlene is a volunteer with the Barrie Out of the Cold Program and facilitates a weekly sports club with the Barrie Native Friendship Centre.
Leigh Gross grew up playing volleyball in Barrie and is now a level 2 trained indoor coach who has been with the Cubs since 2012. Leigh brings with her several years of experience coaching basketball and volleyball prior to joining our club and has also been an assistant with the Barrie Volleyball Academy summer camps. Leigh is a physiotherapist who enjoys mountain biking and skiing in addition to playing in and organizing adult volleyball leagues in Barrie.
Jamie Forget is an elementary school teacher in the Barrie area and has been coaching with the club since 2014. Jamie played men's volleyball at RMC and since then has accumulated over 15 years of coaching experience with elementary school teams, with the Barrie Volleyball Academy and with the South Simcoe Dufferin Track & Field Club.
Kris is a long time coach with a wealth of experience in a variety of different sports. Kris has coached with the Barrie Elites (volleyball), Barrie Royals (basketball) and Barrie/Springwater soccer clubs. Kris is also a former director of Kids Summer Sports Camp (Windsor, ON) and has coached elementary school sports for over 15 years.
Philip Quesnelle is a level 2 trained indoor coach with 25+ years experience playing competitive level volleyball. Phil has been coaching with the Cubs since 2013 and has over 10 years experience as a volunteer coach in elementary and high schools in Barrie. Phil has also been coaching at Camp Celtic since 2016 and is active in the community organizing volleyball related fundraising events in support of the Women and Children's Shelter of Barrie.
Danielle (Dani) Tamm is originally from Clearwater, Florida and moved to Barrie in 2015. While in Florida, Dani was an assistant coach with Stetson University's indoor team and was director of operations for their beach program. Dani has also coached with four clubs in Florida including a 15U national team with Power Volleyball Academy. Dani has completed American certifications that would be equivalent to a Canadian level 2, she has been coaching at Camp Celtic since 2016, and has been coaching 15U-18U Cubs since 2015. Dani is also a mental health counsellor and yoga instructor with experience in mindfulness training and meditation exercises which she incorporates into her volleyball programs.
Scott is an experience indoor volleyball player, having played both Club and Varsity Level with the Georgian Grizzlies.
Scott is a trained Level 1 coach.
Marty Lancaster is a former setter for the McMaster University men's volleyball team. Marty has been coaching girls and boys high school volleyball for over 15 years and has more than 10 years of experience as part of the coaching staff at Camp Celtic. Marty has been coaching with the Cubs since 2015.
Melanie Holland, Amanda Turnbull & Sarah Gillingham
Separate bios for coaches Mel, Sarah and Amanda just wouldn't be right as these three have been a team for so long. As high school teammates they led the Bear Creek Kodiaks to the school's first girls volleyball GBSSA title and OFSAA berth in 2007. Mel and Sarah both also played for the Georgian Cubs, and Sarah went on to play women's volleyball for Georgian College.
They have been coaching with the Cubs since 2017.
Bev MacDonald is a Level 1 trained volleyball coach and has been coaching with the Cubs since 2015. Prior to joining our club, Bev coached with the Barrie Elites for 6 years and coached youth soccer for 10 years. Bev's passion is coaching and mentoring young women, on and off the court. Beyond the game of volleyball, Bev is an advocate for women's and worker's rights, she is the President of the Barrie Regional Women's Committee, the treasurer of the Barrie Area Council, and is involved in many other councils and community groups.
Dave Brewer is a Level 1 Trained volleyball coach and is has been coaching with the Cubs since 2015. Dave has been playing competitive level volleyball for 30+ years and loves sharing his passion for the game with our young players.
Jeff Flear has been coaching with the Cubs since 2015. Jeff has over 20 years experience playing volleyball at a competitive level, including earning a silver medal at OFSAA with Innisdale SS and playing OVA Region 5 men's volleyball.
Benny Lopez is a Level 1 certified volleyball coach with over 35 years of experience as a volleyball player and coach. Benny is entering his 7th season coaching OVA volleyball in the Barrie area, and has been with the Cubs since 2014.
Barb McCarthy is a level 1 certified volleyball coach with over 15 years experience coaching girls and boys high school teams. Barb has coached with the Cubs since 2018 and in addition to volleyball. Barb is also trained in coaching gymnastics, diving and soccer. Barb draws on her passion for the game along with her experience as a teacher and former club player to help grow the next generation of young athletes.
Tara Douglas was a standout athlete at California University of Pennsylvania in both women's softball and volleyball. On the softball diamond, Tara helped lead her team to back to back NCAA National Championships. On the volleyball court, Tara finished her NCAA career second in school history in both digs and kills. Tara's accomplishments led to her being inducted into the Cal Vulcans Hall of Fame for both sports in 2017.
Tara has experience coaching both elementary and high school volleyball teams and also runs advanced pitching clinics for softball players in the Barrie area and has been coaching with the Cubs since 2017.
Andrea Bray brings a wealth of experience to the Cubs organization. After her club and high school career, Andrea travelled to Slovakia to compete in the World Junior Volleyball Championships. Andrea went on to play 4 years at Mohawk College where she was named most improved player in her first year and then became a two time OCAA all-star. In her final year at Mohawk, Andrea finished 4th in OCAA scoring, won team MVP honours and was named to the OCAA All-Star Dream Team. Andrea has experience coaching girls at the high school level, at Olympia Sports Camp and has been an assistant at Georgian College.
Jason White joins the Cubs coaching staff for the 2018/19 season. Jason played volleyball at Pickering's Dunbarton High School and was a member of the Durham Attack volleyball club. Jason then played post-secondary volleyball at Durham College, where he was an OCAA regular season and championship all-star, and then moved on to play at York University. Jason has coached at Madawaska volleyball camp and is also an assistant coach for a regional 12U ringette team.
